The minister conducted a field tour of the various facilities of the plant and was briefed on the work mechanism and recycling stages. He also observed the modern technology deployed in the factory, including the process of receiving old tyres, their classification, cutting, separation and transforming the refuse into rubber materials for various purposes.
He stressed the importance of the work being done at the factory, as it represents the participation of the private sector in the sustainable development process, and noted that recycling old tyres is of great importance. More than 1mn used tyres are collected per year, on an average, from various collecting points in the county, according to a press statement.
The minister said more factories for recycling and treating refuse materials will be set up in the country in order to benefit from them economically rather than just disposing of them in an improper manner.
There is also a short-term strategic plan to benefit from refuse in a better way. He also pointed out that Qatar is counted among the advanced countries in the area of recycling.
The MME logistically supports the factory and provides it with used tyres and discarded vehicles from the Umm Al Afai area and Rawdat Rashid and transports them to the factory for recycling.
The plant is the first of its kind in the country and uses advanced technology.
